I remember this flower shop until it closed in the mid 2010s. It was one of the first photos I took for the Instagram account Tokyo Storefronts. Along with Tamagawaya, this was one of the last few remnants of a shotengai shop where the owner lived and operated a business in the neighborhood. As real estate prices increases, even with new businesses coming in, many don’t live in this neighborhood. Reflecting back I wonder, can a small business own the land they live on, live there and run a business today?

About Giclée

2010年代半ばに閉店するまで、この花屋さんのことはよく覚えています。これは、私がインスタグラムアカウント「Tokyo Storefronts」を始める際に撮影した最初の写真のうちの一枚でした。たまがわやと同様、ここはオーナーがこの街に住み、商売を営む、昔ながらの商店街の面影を残す数少ないお店の一つでした。不動産価格が上昇し、新しいお店ができても、この地域に住んでいる人は多くありません。振り返ってみると、現代において、小さな商店が土地を所有し、そこに住み、商売を続けることは可能なのだろうかと考えさせられます。
